Parent Governor Vacancy

Mr Adam Herron steps down from the governing body after eight years of loyal service. Over the past two years he has been the chair of a new governing body and has worked tirelessly to ensure that it continues to execute its three core functions:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.

Thank you Adam. As a result of Adam’s departure from the governing body there is a vacancy for a parent governor. The letter that was sent to all families sets out the process for those parents who wish to stand in the forthcoming election. If you are interested in becoming a governor please read through the letter below carefully before making your decision.
PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY/NOMINATIONS

I am writing to notify you that there is a vacancy for a parent governor on the school’s Governing Body due to the end of Adam Herron’s four year term of office. Adam has completed two four year terms and has been a loyal servant to the school. He has served as the Chair of Governors for the past two years and has done a very significant and excellent job.

The Governing Body plays a significant part in shaping the development of the school and Parent Governors play an important role in this. As members of the Governing Body they help shape policy, set strategic priorities and oversee the school budget. In your role as Parent Governor, you will be supported in these duties by other experienced members of the Governing Body, the Headteacher, the Clerk to the Governors, the Diocese and the Local Authority. Any person who is a registered parent or carer of a pupil at the school is invited to stand for election and has the right to vote. You are asked to read the attached eligibility criteria before making your nomination.

As a Parent Governor, you will normally hold office for a period of four years even if your child leaves the school during this time. However, you can resign from the Governing Body at any time. You will be expected to attend five full governing body evening meetings a year which normally take place on Thursday evenings (7.00pm – 8.30pm) and to sit on at least one governing body sub-committee which meet up to three times a year. All governors are expected to undertake regular training and you will be required to attend governor induction training provided by the Local Authority within the first three months of your appointment.

We are particularly looking for people with skills in the following areas: fundraising, marketing and finance.

If you wish to nominate yourself for the Parent Governor position, please compete and return the Nomination Form and Declaration of Eligibility in a sealed envelope labelled ‘Parent Governor Nomination’ by 15.30 am on Thursday 22nd June. Please also include a short statement about yourself including reasons why you wish to become a school governor and how you can contribute to the work of the Governing Body (no more than 500 words).

All nominees will be given notice of receipt of their nomination on Friday 23rd June. If more than two candidates are nominated, there will be an election and I will notify all parents/carers of the election date and time and details provided by the candidates will be sent out.
