Assessment Statement September 2016
For the academic year 2016-17 the school will continue to use the Interim Teacher Assessment Framework for pupils in Year 6. They will also have statutory national assessments in the summer of 2016 and will be tested under the content of this framework. Results will be published using a scaled score where 100 is considered to be the National Average.
In the 2016- 17 academic year the pupil progress tracking system will be based on the Herts for Learning approach. Pupils’ progress will be monitored using this model.
As well as embedding a new assessment scheme, the school will review its arrangements for reporting to parents in order to help them to understand how their child has progressed in relation to achieving Age Related Expectations (A.R.E). This will be communicated through the end of year annual report and will identify if pupils are working; Below, Working Towards, Working At or Working Beyond ARE.
Teacher Parent Consultations will take place in the Autumn and Summer terms. They are an effective way of helping parents understand the level at which their child is currently working at and how they can support their future learning. There will also be a series of workshops held in the Spring and Summer terms for parents to help familiarise themselves with the different techniques that are used in class to support the children’s learning. The workshops scheduled for 2016 – 17 will be on Homework and Reading/Spelling.
The Interim Teacher Assessment Framework can be found by clicking on the link below. It explains the expectations of knowledge and application that the children must be able to demonstrate in order to be assessed at working at Age Related Expectation. Please take some time familiarising yourself with the document.
