Headteacher’s Newsletter – September 15th 2017
Autumn duly arrived this week and caught many of us off guard. After a long summer, the feeling of winter is now with us; please make sure that your child comes to school in the appropriate uniform and that all items are clearly labelled. It was good to see so many of you attending the first round of meetings with your child’s class teacher.I hope that you found them useful. The slides from these meetings will be uploaded onto your child’s Year Group page on the school website. Next Saturday is the first major event of the school year – Autumn Welcome Fayre at the Infant School. Please make every effort to attend and support this excellent event. The funeral mass of the late Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor took place this week, may he rest in peace. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. We look forward to welcoming many of you to mass on Wednesday morning at 11am to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year.
The Word of the Week is – FORGIVENESS – Jesus reminds us this week that we must forgive someone who wrongs us seven times but seventy seven times. Unless we learn to forgive we can never truly experience the love of God.
Attendance – It is very important that you ring the school office once the day has started to let the office staff know if your child is going to be absent through illness or any other reason. It is a matter of safeguarding and needs to be taken very seriously. Thank you for your support with this important issue.
Parked Cars – It has been brought to my attention that there are a number of individuals who keep watch on your parked car (Cecil and Cavendish Roads) and look for an opportunity to break in and steal your valuables. Please remember to lock your car and to put all valuables out of sight when dropping your child to school or attending any school event.
Parish Choir – Children with an interest in music, from the age of 8, will be very welcome to join Parish Choir which sings the 1130 mass on the first and third Sundays of each month. The children don’t need to read music (but do need to read!). The practices are from 1030 on the same Sundays. If interested, please contact Mr Vellacott directly after one of the 1130 masses, or let Mr Soyka know at the school and we will put you in touch. (Note that the Parish Choir is separate from, and not in competition with, the Junior Choir which sings the 0930 masses.)
Autumn Welcome Fair – Saturday September 23rd from 12-3pm
We are still very short of helpers – if you haven’t already signed up to a stall please email firstname.lastname@example.org saying which hour you can help in and we will place you in a team.
We especially need a team to set up from 9am on Saturday morning. Please email us to know you are planning to come then so we can plan accordingly.
Toys, Books and Games
Please bring these in to the Infant school library from Monday 18th September. Only bring items that are complete and in good condition. Don’t forget soft toys which will be used on the soft toy tombola.
Our cake stall is legendary! Bring donations of cakes and biscuits to the hall on Friday Sept 22nd (ideally end of day but earlier is fine) or to the school playground on the morning of the fair.
PTA AGM and Social
This is a great opportunity to find out who the PTA Committee are and what they do in an informal atmosphere. Please come along to find out more and see whether you can get involved.
Once again we are taking over the Arena for our own performance of Aladdin on Saturday 9th December. Tickets will go on sale shortly, look out for the Parentmail and save the date!
On Line Payments – You will be able to make on line payments from next week. We have experienced a few difficulties through the week but everything should resume from Monday afternoon. Thank you for your patience with this matter.

Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows – today is her feast day
I beseech you, O Lord Jesus Christ,
that the Blessed Virgin Mary,
whose most holy soul was pierced in the hour of your Passion by the sword of sorrow,
may intercede for us with Your mercy now and at the hour of our death.
HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND!
