Headteacher’s Newsletter – November 25th 2016
It has been a wonderful week of celebration. It started on Monday at our weekly achievement assembly and finished with our annual Advent assembly on Friday morning. The preparation for Christmas has begun. Our girls’ football team kept up their winning record and rehearsals for the Christmas production are well underway. There are three and a half weeks left in this term and there is much to be done! Please keep abreast of the times and dates of forthcoming events, there is much to enjoy.
The word of the week is ADVENT: Advent is a time of preparation and welcoming Christ in to our lives again as an infant. How do we make a path for the Lord to be truly present in our lives? We are reminded of God’s love because He sent His only son in to the world to bring the good news. How will you prepare?
27 Mile Challenge – With a week to go we have completed our three walks along the Alban Way and a morning of exercise at Nicholas Breakspear. How many more miles do you have to go? Please keep working hard to complete the journey and who will win the prize for raising the most amount of money?? GOOD LUCK
Disco Update –The first disco of the year was held last Friday and was a huge success. Many thanks to Ann Moss who once again led the event, ably assisted by a team of staff and parent helpers. These events cannot take place without this support so please consider helping at the next one. Thanks also to Britvic who once again generously donated the drinks. The disco made £833 plus an additional £113 was raised through the excellent photo booth for The St Albans Talking Newspaper. The PTA will make a donation to Children in Need.

If you have paid then you have a place.
Charity Car Parking – Saturday 3rd Dec Many thanks to those who have offered to help; we now have enough people. If you are going into town on that day please use our charity carpark on Upper Marlborough road so that the PTA will benefit.
Tea-towels coming soon. See Parentmail for pre-order form.
Sustainable St Albans Week – The Bring and Buy Sale on Wednesday raised over £120 which will be split between Sustainable St Albans Week and Emmaus charity. It was a great success that helped the children to understand the importance of recycling their toys and books. The children also enjoyed an assembly on Thursday that was led by a representative from Sustainable St Albans Week charity. They learnt simple ways of how to conserve energy – turning off taps when brushing teeth, switching off lights when leaving a room and walking or scooting to school. It has been a very good week in raising awareness of sustainability.
LAST WEEK WE BURNT 1390 KWH OF ENERGY. THIS IS AN INCREASE OF 280 KWH FROM TWO WEEKS AGO. HOW CAN WE REDUCE THIS FIGURE?
Christmas Tree – Thank you to the PTA who very generously donated this year’s tree. It was beautifully dressed by the children at this morning’s very special Advent assembly.

The Big Question – “Is it better to play badly and win or play well and lose?”
Come, thou long expected Jesus,
Born to set thy people free,
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in thee.
HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND!
