Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 18th May 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

First Holy Communion – Well done to all those children who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. It was lovely to see all of the children looking so smartly dressed. It was a very important day in their Catholic lives as they now join with the rest of the school to celebrate the Eucharist. I hope you all had a wonderful day of celebrations afterwards – despite the weather. Thank you to anyone who helped prepare the children for this special occasion and thank you to the parents for supporting them through this Sacrament of Initiation.

Year 6 SATS – They are finally over for another year! The children all worked tremendously hard to prepare themselves for the tests and whatever the outcome, myself, Mrs King , Mr Jewels  and Mrs Selkirk are all very proud of what they have achieved this year. As you all know, these tests do not define them and we understand that, however, they are a sad necessity that unfortunately has to take place and we hope that we helped prepare them well enough. We value the children for all of their talents, not just their academic abilities. We all hope that they will leave Ss Alban and Stephen School remembering more than just SATs. They have had many fun and uplifting experiences here and hopefully many more to come. I am now very much looking forward to their end of year show, which I had a little taster of today. I truly believe ‘We Will Rock You!’ Year 6, have a restful weekend – you deserve it!

Get Your Grown Ups Gardening – TOMORROW I know it is the royal wedding tomorrow and some of you may be busy , but please, if you can spare some time, come down and give as little or a lot to help out between 9.00am and 1.00pm. Let’s spruce up our school! Thank you so much for the kind donations of plants and soil that have already arrived, it is much appreciated!

Piano lessons – I have been approached by a piano tutor to see if there were would be any interest for piano tuition in school. We already have so many opportunities for other instruments but not piano. If you would be interested in a place, I have attached a flyer. Please do not contact the school rather, contact Mrs Beart directly and dependant on the demand, we may start lessons in September. I will update you further at a later date.

School parking-  I would like to remind you that parents are not permitted to drive into the school carpark. The only exception would be if your child has a serious injury that requires them to be dropped at the office entrance. This is to ensure that there is no congestion in the car park. It is important that this rule is adhered to by all parents.

Dinner Money –There are still a number of outstanding dinner money debts from this half term. Please could all remaining balances be cleared by Wednesday at the latest.

Safeguarding – If you need to visit the school during lesson time for any reason, it is important that you report to the office staff who can then either deliver the message or collect your child. Please do not attempt to go directly to the classroom.

Fun Run- On Friday 25th May, the children are permitted to wear their St Albans Fun Run T shirt to school if they have one from last year. (Wear normal uniform on the bottom please.) If you haven’t already, remember to sign up for the fun run which takes place on Sunday 10th June at 10.00am in Verulamium Park – St Albans. Please mention our school as there is a cash prize to the school with the highest number of entries. The deadline to enter is Tuesday 5th June.

PTA News –The PTA would like to thank all those volunteers who gave up their time to help at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday. It was a great success and we couldn’t have done it without their help. For more PTA news and upcoming events please do have a read of our summer term newsletter or refer to the PTA webpage https://ssasinfants.herts.sch.uk/pta/
