Headteacher’s Newsletter – 31st March 2017

As we head towards the end of another term, we look forward to the promise of Easter and an opportunity for spiritual renewal. The children have worked incredibly hard through the term and tiredness is beginning to creep in. Keep going children. The Year 5 Netball team won the local St Albans Schools tournament earlier in the week and it comes off the back of the Year 6 girls success the previous week. Netball is going from strength to strength. The boys football team also secured a long awaited win last Friday night against Prae Wood. Year 5 began our week with a very poignant assembly on the theme of sacrifice and the PTA Ball by the Lake promises to be another excellent event. All lost property will be put out on Monday evening after school outside the entrance to the Year 5 classrooms.

The word of the week is: COMPASSION – How do you share other people’s sorrow?  Pope Francis captures his understanding of compassion beautifully – ” The compassion of God, his suffering – with – us gives meaning to our struggles and our suffering.”

Class 5 Assembly – Class 5 delivered a very meaningful assembly on Monday morning about the theme of sacrifice. They acted and spoke with conviction and helped the school community to spend some time in thought about this often over looked but incredibly important aspect of life.

Year 4/5 Netball Tournament – The Year 5 netball team built on the success of the Year 6 team by winning the local St Albans Year 4 / 5 Netball tournament on Tuesday evening. They faced some stiff competition along the way in the form of Garden Fields (twice) Skyswood and Cunningham Hill but outplayed everyone who stood between them and the trophy. Congratulations to both teams who took part in the competition and represented the school so magnificently.

Cycle Training – Year 5 spent the week completing their Cycling Proficiency Levels 1 and 2. The instructors were impressed with their levels of understanding and concentration. Congratulations children and we look forward to presenting you with the well earned badges.

A Message from Mrs Harvey-Kennan – On 23 April, Orla Harvey Keenan’s mum, Fleur, will be running in the London marathon. She is raising money for the Carer Support Team on the Starfish Ward at Watford General Hospital. Martina (Austin Kennedy’s mum) volunteers with the CST and there is some information about the fantastic work they do on Fleur’s JustGiving page. The CST is not a huge charity and they rely on donations to be able to continue.
