Headteacher’s Newsletter 2nd September 2016

Welcome back! The new academic year started once again today and it was lovely to see our new Year 3 children who joined us from the Infant school and to welcome back the children in Years 4 5 and 6.  We also welcomed our new members of staff to Ss Alban & Stephen at assembly this morning and look forward to getting to know them in the years ahead. I would like to thank you all for your generosity and kindness at the end of last term. The gifts that members of staff received was overwhelming; we were all proud to be part of a wonderful community.

There is a very busy term ahead which begins with the of the school photographer visit on Monday 12th for individual photos, closely followed by year group meetings. Dates for the academic year will be sent out early next week and clubs will recommence over the next few weeks too. If you do have any queries or concerns please speak with your child’s class teacher who I am sure will be able to reassure you. We look forward to working closely with you throughout the year ahead.

Welcome to Year Group Meetings: These important meetings will take place on the following dates and times:

Year 6 Monday 12th September @ 9.15am

Year 5 Monday 26th September @ 9.15am

Year 4 Tuesday 13th  September @ 9.15am

All meetings will be held in one of the respective year group classes. At this meeting you will be given important information about the expectations for the year group and the different processes and procedures that are followed. Please make every effort to attend.

PTA News: There are a number of PTA activities planned for this term – please check the weekly newsletters and Parentmails for further information. The PTA have been working on a new website which, when launched, will be the primary source of PTA news.

Confirmed dates are:
Thursday September 15th – PTA AGM at 7.45pm in the Infant school hall. Whether you are new to the school or not, please come along to find out what the PTA does and how you can help.

Saturday September 24th – Autumn Fair from 12-3pm at the Infant school. This is the biggest single fund raising event of the year. Over the next few weeks we will be asking you to volunteer to help on a stall, buy raffle tickets, donate books and toys and bake cakes. Please get involved to help make the event a great success.

Dates: A list of dates for the academic year will be sent out very early next week and published on the school website.

Assembly: Assemblies will continue to be held on Monday mornings from 9.05am – all are welcome. This coming Monday’s assembly will be on the theme of ‘Welcome’.

Clubs: All clubs will recommence over the coming weeks. The people who run many of the clubs will send out correspondence via the Parentmail. Any payments and permission slips should be given directly to them and not to the school office. Thank you for your understanding.

New After School Club: Our new After School Club opens on the week commencing Monday 19th September and is open to all families of children at the Junior school only. The club will be supervised by two staff who will encourage the children to learn and play in an inclusive environment. It will run from 3.20pm through to 6.00pm at a cost of £6 per child per session. Further details will follow next week.

Breakfast Club: The Junior School Breakfast Club runs every morning from 7.45am through to 8.45am and is supervised by Mrs Walker and Miss Cornford. There is a variety of food for the children to choose from which includes cereal, bacon sandwiches, toast and juice. There is no need to book; just turn up. Cost £3 per child. Unfortunately like the After School Club the Breakfast Club is only for children at the Junior School. We look forward to welcoming you.

The Big Question: Every week in the newsletter there is a question that has a range of different answers. Please spend some time discussing the question with your child and see where the discussions take you.

“Is it better to be a child or an adult?”

Prayer to Start A New School Year

God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
