Head’s Newsletter September 30th 2016

Autumn has truly arrived; the leaves are beginning to change colour and the richness of the season is upon us. Our netball team played their first games of the season this week and were given a thorough workout by Cunningham Hill. It was good to see so many parents at the game. The Welcome Fair last Saturday was a tremendous success; the weather held, you came in great numbers and raised a truly amazing amount.Thank you to everyone who helped to make the first event of the year so enjoyable and welcoming. We look forward to taking our Year 6 children on school journey next week to Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre where they will enjoy all that the Pembroke coast has to offer. Keep your eyes on the school website for updates. It was very pleasing to see a good size group of parents on Thursday afternoon who came to hear Mr Linnane speak about Nicholas Breakspear School. He was impressed with their questions and the welcome he received. Thank you to those of you who supported the event.
The word of the week is FAITH: The greatest gift of all. Not only does it enrich our lives but brings us closer to God and allows our love for Him to grow.
Chaplaincy Team Assembly – Our new Chaplaincy Team will lead assembly on Friday 14th of October at 9.10am. They will share with the school, their vision and aims for the forthcoming year. We look forward to welcoming many of you to this important assembly.

Joint Parent / Carers Support Group – This academic year the Infant and Junior school will be trialling a joint Parent / carers support group.  It is intended that there will be 6 coffee mornings held over the year with a range of professionals invited to attend the meetings for parents to talk to.  They will be an opportunity to meet each other and share ideas to support each other.  The group is open to all parents / carers, there is no requirement to attend all 6 and no booking is required.  The location will alternate between the Infant and Junior school.

The first coffee morning of the academic year will be held at the Infant school on Monday 17th October 2016 at 9am with Stephanie Nunn from LINKS coming to present information about emotional literacy and give some tips for raising emotionally resilient children.  The second date for the autumn term is Monday 12th December 2016 at 9am at the Junior school with Chris Engstom from St Albans Plus coming to share what the service offers for parents.  We look forward to seeing you.

Building Fund – Your child will bring home a very important letter today about the school building fund. The contributions parents make to support the building and maintenance projects undertaken by the school is invaluable to the children’s development. For every major project the governors have to contribute 10% of the final costs and your contributions allow this to happen. If you already support the fund – thank you for your continued support; if it something you would like to participate in, please do give it some consideration.
Meet the GovernorsKEEP THE DATE: FRIDAY 4TH NOVEMBER  from 9.00am
The school is blessed to have a very supportive and incredibly knowledgeable board of governors who execute their core functions effectively. We would like to invite parents to meet with them and to learn more about: their roles, what they do and the way they support and challenge the school, at a coffee morning on the first Friday back after half term. We look forward to meeting many of you for this important event.
