Dragon’s Apprentice Challenge – Awards Ceremony

The final event of this year’s Dragon’s Apprentice challenge took place in the Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire on Tuesday 25th April. Teams from both challenges gathered together for the awards ceremony to discover who would be crowned the overall winner.

The evening started with a number of excellent presentations from secondary schools and colleges who competed in the Senior Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge and explained how they turned their seed money of £100 in to over £1000 and at one school nearly £2000!

As the evening moved on we were incredibly fortunate to listen to a very inspiring speech from the very special guest for the evening – Derek Redmond. He spoke about his own personal challenges and set backs (including 7 operations on the hamstring he tore during the semi final of the Men’s 400m at the Barcelona Olympics) and reminded everyone in the audience to never give up even in the darkest and toughest of times.

And so we moved to the business end of the evening and it wasn’t long before we learnt that The News Warriors were crowned the Overall Winners and for having the Most Innovative Idea; a remarkable achievement. It was a wonderful evening, the memories of which will live long in the memory. The Junior Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge gave a small but hardy group of children from Year 5; the opportunity to develop new skills, an ability to work collaboratively as a team and the chance to learn about the basic fundamentals of running and sustaining a business plan. Thank you children for representing the school so confidently and achieving beyond your wildest dreams.
