Derek Redmond visits Ss Alban & Stephen
Former 400 metre World Champion Derek Redmond spent the morning at school and shared with the children his life story. He spoke passionately about the personal tragedy he suffered during the 400 metre semi – final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics (where he was the joint favourite for the gold) and how this set back inspired him to greater things. Derek spent the morning in each class fielding questions about his life and his career and was a true inspiration to everyone. His message about success was very clear and easy to follow: aspiration, dedication, discipline and hard work.
He spent over half an hour signing autographs on t-shirts, scraps of paper and other various pieces of card before heading off back home. His visit will be remembered for a long time to come and his message will echo around the building as our mantra about how to succeed in life. He truly is one of the good guys!
