Chess Tournament

Children from Chess Club played in a competition on Friday 6th February against a number of other local schools. Mr Flatt their coach has written the report below.

We played the first two rounds of the South West Herts Primary School Chess League in what was a well organised and friendly event at Cunningham Hill Junior School. Last year’s champions are Oakwood A.

The teams taking part in this year’s league are: Cunningham Hill A & B, Roundwood A & B (Harpenden), Oakwood A & B, Bhaktivedanta Manor (Aldenham), Arnett Hills (Rickmansworh), Skyswood and, of course, Ss Alban & Stephen.

Let me thank our team for playing so well against Roundwood B and Oakwood B who were both strong and well prepared teams. We lost rather badly to Roundwood B (0-6) but came back strong to draw with Oakwood B (3 games each).

Our team benefited from the experience of Harley(captain), Jessica and Molly(vice captain) who were all members of last year’s team; each of them won their games against Oakwood B. Our new players (Odette, Amelia, Jack and Alex) showed tremendous fighting spirit and great promise in their first competition.

We look forward to our remaining matches on Friday 27th February and Friday 27th March.
